Frequently asked questions
The speed reads zero, or will not update.
Feel the Need needs location access and a GPS fix. Check that location access is
allowed in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Feel the Need, and that
you have a clear view of the sky. The signal indicator at the top right of the screen
shows current fix quality. Indoors, in tunnels, and in parking structures, GPS is
usually unavailable.
The speed does not match my car's speedometer.
That is expected, and your car is not necessarily the accurate one. Vehicle
speedometers are generally required to never read low, so most read slightly high on
purpose. GPS speed is usually closer to your true speed, but it is not a certified
measurement and should not be treated as one. Always rely on your vehicle's
speedometer and obey posted limits.
Does it work without a data connection?
Yes. GPS is a satellite signal and does not need cellular data or Wi-Fi. The app makes
no network requests at all.
Does it drain my battery?
Continuous GPS use and keeping the screen awake both use power. The app is designed to
be open while you drive, so plugging in on longer trips is worth doing. Location
updates stop as soon as you leave the app.
Does it track me?
No. Your location is used only to compute the number on screen, on your device. It is
never recorded and never transmitted. See https://vexingmedia.com/feel-the-need/privacy.
What does a tip get me?
Nothing, deliberately. Every feature is free and always will be. The tip jar exists
only for people who want to support continued development.
I found a bug, or I want to suggest a feature.
Email support@vexingmedia.com. Please include your iPhone model and iOS version. Note
that the app is deliberately minimal, so some feature requests will be declined on
purpose; that is the point of it.
