Project Mission
When our video team was approached to create a pharmaceutical product commercial, the request came with a creative twist and a logistical puzzle: produce two identical commercials, tailored to two distinct audiences—one Caucasian, one Latino. The challenge? Keep every camera angle, lighting setup, and edit perfectly matched, while making subtle but meaningful changes in set design to reflect each audience’s cultural context.
To meet strict pharmaceutical advertising regulations, we treated this project with the same care and compliance as if we were marketing a real drug. The production spanned two shoot days, across two locations, with two separate casts. Every shot was meticulously mirrored—from lighting temperature to actor blocking—ensuring both versions felt cohesive and consistent.
Behind the scenes, our team worked intentionally to maintain visual parity while adapting props, wardrobe, and background details to resonate with each audience. The result: two fully compliant, culturally authentic, and emotionally resonant commercials, sharing one brand voice.
At Vexing Media, we thrive on this kind of complex storytelling—where precision meets cultural nuance, and creativity lives within clear boundaries.
Vexing Media elevates the footage we capture to craft memorial commercials with synchronized precision. Notice the seamless harmony of lighting, shot angles, and audio all working together. The combination captivates and holds the attention of viewers, sparking curiosity and introducing investment towards the product.
Video Production Goals
The goal of the final videos was clear: communicate the benefits of a pharmaceutical product in a way that genuinely connects with diverse audiences. To do that, the content needed to hit several marks:
- A story that felt authentic and relatable to both cultural groups
- Visual consistency and production efficiency across two languages and casts
- Flexible, high-quality footage that could be used across TV, streaming platforms, and social media
To bring these bilingual commercials to life, we deployed a seasoned crew for a tightly coordinated 2-day shoot at two carefully selected locations.
Normally, shooting matched scenes would call for locking down the camera on a tripod or using motion control systems—but that can limit movement and energy. Instead, our cinematographer built a custom solution: a camera stabilization rig using a DJI Ronin paired with an EasyRig vest, which allowed for dynamic shots while keeping framing consistent between takes. A wireless video feed let the client monitor progress in real time, ensuring every frame aligned with the creative vision.
The Results
In order to meet the challenge of matching the movements of the actors, we blocked and rehearsed the shots multiple times. The opening oner (pronounced one-er), was especially difficult, with the wife, grandma, and daughter characters waiting for movement and audible crews from the director.
After filming wrapped, we dove into post-production, meeting our 2 week edit deadline, delivering 2 videos with matching color grading, animations, and bilingual voiceover. Additional challenges were revealed in this stage where undesirable visual elements had to be digitally removed. For privacy reasons, we removed the street address from the front of the house along with the doorbell camera. Inside the house were unsightly screws in the walls, and one actor had sweated through their shirt, which was remedied in After Effects using a combination of motion tracking and clever image modification.
The finished videos were formatted and delivered ready-to-air across multiple channels. Client feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with one reviewer commenting, “These look terrific. Appreciate the great work!”
