I’m Greedy

I’ve gotten to work with clients to help create the very first videos that they use for their website and social media. Naturally it’s a big step and I’ve had several conversations with nervous clients expressing the pressure they feel to do it right. And I want that too! So I decided to put together a few thoughts about what we need to help make the process of shooting a new video go smoothly.

In short, I’m greedy. And I’m not even sorry about it.

This statement is understandably and purposefully a little inflammatory.
Greedy? In this economy?

But I’m not joking, and if you’ve worked with me there’s a decent chance you’ve heard me say this.

Naturally, that statement needs some qualifiers, because I’m not a monster. I don’t take more than an appropriate amount of guac on my chips and I never double dip. One slice of pizza left? I’ll offer to cut it into 2 smaller pieces. I’ll even let you pick which one you want. That’s just the kind of guy I am.

But when you’re sending me that photo I wanted to include in the video, don’t text me! Email the attachment or use a file transfer service. I want all the pixels.

I’m greedy.

Or we’re looking for a location in your office to film an interview. Your office is way too small.

The conference room?

No, too many chairs and the table is in the way. Can we use the lobby? I like having plants in the background and there’s enough space that I can create some depth in the frame. And can you ask your staff to not come through here and keep the noise down in the back? Thanks a ton!

I’m greedy!

4 hours of filming isn’t enough time to get everything we need to make a good video. Can you block out the whole day? I’ll be there at 7am.

I’m greedy, dammit, and I won’t pretend I’m not.

The thing is, I’m trying to create something that communicates what you need to your audience. I’ll work long hours, wake up before dawn, in the sweltering heat, cold, rain, snow, wind (Unless it’s going to damage my gear of course. That doesn’t help anybody.) because I’m 100% committed to making sure we get the best footage and content possible.

If you’re still reading. Just one more request. Is there a way to turn off the overhead lights? They’re causing banding on the sensor.

Oh and the stitching on your shirt is cause moire. Do you have anything more…flat?
