Amanda Cantrell
Director of Communications

Dr. Amanda Cantrell brings over 20 years experience in communications for the nonprofit, government, and NGO sector, with a dabbling in the private sector. She is motivated by improving her community, increasing representation, and encouraging engagement for self-advocacy, thus a sector which gives back is really the only for her. She has been lucky to work with some amazing people, leveraging a visionary leadership style, and excited to join the very talented Vexing Media team.
Amanda has experience in every aspect of communications–from creating to design, strategic planning to implementation, media relations to training spokespeople, paid and earned media, traditional to digital. She’s been a one-woman department and lead a team, so she not only understands it at the highest level, but is not afraid to jump in and do the work. In her last few positions, Amanda’s been lucky to have campaigns win almost 20 awards, and she knows the number will continue to grow here.
An artist in her own right, Amanda is the co-founder and executive director for the Spokane Shakespeare Society, a professional nonprofit theatre. She was bitten by the theatre bug in the early 80s and has loved it ever since. Thankfully it complements a team with so much film experience that she’s happy to be able to give a different perspective.
Amanda holds a doctor of public administration with a focus in nonprofit leadership from Valdosta State University, a master of science in human relations and business (aka business communications) from Amberton University, a two bachelor of science degrees–one in communications and one in theatre–from Texas A&M University, Commerce, and an associates of arts in acting and performance from KD Conservatory. Originally from Texas, she’s lived in several states and moved from Alaska to Spokane right before the pandemic. Despite being out of the south a while, she’ll still bring that southern charm if that’s what your campaign needs.
